    • releases ADH and oxytocin but does not synthesize them
      • transported from the hypothalamus
  • Development
    • also known as the neurohypophysis
      • formed embyrologically from neuroectoderm tissue
    • do not confuse with adenohypophysis which is another name for the anterior pituitary
      • formed embryologically from Rathke's pouch
